Facebook Offering Gift Cards in Target Stores

On September 5th, Facebook began dipping into brick-and-mortar business by selling gift cards at Target Stores.  The gift cards can be used to purchase virtual goods for their online games hosted on Facebook.com

The credits will will available in increments of $15, $25, and $50.  There Facebook gaming world has about 500 million users globally and are available for free.  Farmville, one of Zynga’s most popular games allows users to purchase “virtual” land, grow food and expand their property.  Most games make revenue through user purchases of goods and service offered within the game.

Social games are gaining incredible momentum and attention by some industry heavy hitters like the Walt Disney company who recently purchased the start-up company, Playdom, for $563.2 million dollars in July.    Google, the internet search giant, is even seeking to become involved in the social games arena.
