Adding Annotations to your online videos

As more and more people use social media to propel their businesses, personal blogs or anything else they would want to promote, it is becoming more and more apparent to find ways to increase your videos visibility on YouTube. For some this is a daunting task and it can be overwhelming. However, ReelSEO have been making video How-To’s that are making all of our lives that much easier.

ReelSEO has provided tips and tricks for the everyday Web Creater called “The Reel Web”  Series. In each short video they provide helpful hints and tricks for turning your boring videos into extrodinary creations and how to bump it up one set further to propel it to the front page for more potential views.
One of the tips that was recently mentioned was in their eighth video on using YouTube’s Annotations to increase viewer engagement. This is something that you should not skip. You need to engage your audience to entice them to follow you to whatever call to action you want your viewer to do, wither it is to subcribe to your YouTube account, or to create a video response to the topic you mentioned in your video.
Here are some tips that you too can use in your videos to increase ingagement for your potential viewers:

  1. Place your logo or url on the lower right hand corner of your video. Lower the opacity so that it is not too distacting on your video as it plays. You can then place an invisable annotation box that covers your url so that a user can click on button and connect to any webpage you want them to go to.
  2. If you want a user to click on a certain area on your video such as a subscribe button, and you want to give them time to do so, there is a annotation pause button you can use to actually pause your video for any duration of time. This is a great way to create a interactive menu on your videos.
  3. Create a call to action annotation button on your videos. Instead of the viewer looking around for your subscribe button make it conventient and create a custom button on your video and place an invisable annotation button over it so that the viewer. They can click on it and immediately subscribe to your channel where ever they are viewing the video.

There are two things that I want to stress about using annotations:

  1. Less is more do not clutter your videos with annotations. Use them with meaning and purpose. Limit your videos to a few annotiations at at time.
  2. Annotations do not work on mobile devices, iPads and such. They work only on desktop or laptop devices at this time.

So there are a lot of uses you can use the annotations for in your videos. I did not cover all of them, but ReelSEO has an outstanding video that explains everything about how to properly use annotations and gives examples of videos that use the buttons well.

Watch the video, if you like it, click the like button. If you really like the videos subscribe to the YouTube channel as well.
