Website Design 101: What Steps Do You Want Visitors To Take?

Website Design 101

One of the biggest marketing mistakes in web design is something we like to call the Fire Hose Approach. This is when you put everything imaginable on the homepage, without clear direction of what exactly you want website visitors to do next.

You might think, “Obviously I want them to call and hire me!” But this is an impractical second step. No one is going to call and hire you after merely visiting your homepage. They’re going to want more information about you – maybe about your services, your past clients, or your prices.

Create a Website Plan

There is where you have an advantage. By figuring out what you want your website visitors to do next – whether it’s read your About page, peruse your photo gallery, or something else – you can design your homepage and navigation around that next step or steps.

Great website design will essentially eliminate the choice from website visitors; instead, they’ll naturally be led into performing the next action you want them to take.
