Deadly Marketing Mistake #13: Not Listening to Matt Cutts

If you don’t know who Matt Cutts is, learn.  He is the head of spam control for Google.  No, not the spam you eat and not email spam.  “Search spam” are people trying to “game” the search results.  In a way, most SEO people can fall into the realm of spammers, because we all want higher rankings and are willing to do anything for them. Most SEO techniques can be considered spam by Google.  As a great SEO company, we try to listen to Matt Cutts and play within his rules, always innovating in that sandbox.

So what are you to do?

Listen to Matt Cutts. He will tell you what to do and what not to do, in pretty simple terms.  He makes great videos and writes good blog posts.  As an internet marketing professional, I do not agree with all of Google’s policies, but they are the house, and you are playing their game when it comes to search. Will it always be that way?  I am not sure.

Will your Website get penalized by Google?

For now, know this: if you don’t play by Google’s rules, you will get caught.  It might not be today or next week or even this year, but the more you try to game the system and not listen to Matt Cutts, the harder you will fall, and you will end up spending just as much time fixing it.

Think about it.  How smart are your SEO people? If they are not stressing great content development for your personal injury law firm and online “mingling,” then they are not doing their job.

Doing the SEO for your Personal Injury Firm Yourself

Are you doing the SEO yourself?  So, with part time work and average knowledge you are going to win continuously?

You are playing a game of chicken against a company that’s sole source of major revenue is search quality. Google employs the smartest people in the world to ensure that the search stays “clean.” The search drives billions of dollars in revenue for them every year.

Think what people would do for billions of dollars.

Now, you can spend time and money not listening to Matt Cutts, or you can do it his way (the Google Way) and know you will be in it for the long haul.

I think the choice is obvious.
