Google’s Head of Search Quality Says the Best Method for SEO: “Be Authentic”

You can try to win the link building game.

You can try to battle for high rankings for certain terms.

You can waste a lot of money.

OR, as Matt Cutts says, you can be authentic.

Not listening to Matt Cutts’ is one of the deadliest Internet marketing mistakes you can make.

Google’s Matt Cutts, essentially the head of search engine quality at Google, the real voice of search, the person you should listen to most if you marketing on the Internet, validated the authenticWEB strategy.

At a recent conference Matt Cutts was interviewed and here is a quote from the coverage:

[Matt Cutts] clarified that building content for the sole purpose of building links is a bad strategy.  “It’s easier to be real than to fake being real.  Be authentic and get to be known the honest way,” Matt said referring to creating useful and authoritative content. [Source]

There you go.  Straight from Google’s mouth. The best SEO strategy is to “Be Authentic.” We have been claiming this for years! I taught a class last week about the fundamentals of getting found on Google and preached this.

I hear so many people talk about other, less important SEO strategies.

Sorry, but validation from the source feels awesome.

When we started authenticWEB more than five years ago, I saw where search was going. Computers were getting faster, social media was on the rise and there were tons of “SEO” companies getting in the game. There was only one way to go – create great authentic content to stake your claim on the Internet.

Which SEO strategy should you choose for your business?

If you think an SEO company that has 5, 10 or 100 people working on your SEO, claiming to have some secret sauce for Google’s algorithm, think about this:

Google hires 20,000+ of the smartest people on the planet and pays them well. Matt Cutts leads these people in keeping Google’s Search great. The only real way Google makes money is through their algorithm. Matt Cutts says, “Be Authentic.”

Which SEO and Internet marketing strategy should you choose?

I think the choice is obvious.

P.S. Don’t forget, authenticity should flow through your website design and all of your other marketing, not just your SEO!
